BREAKING: The Bruins Have Acquired Pat Maroon From The Minnesota Wild
The Big Rig is headed to Boston. The Bruins beef up at the deadline by acquiring Pat Maroon from Minnesota for a conditional late 6th round draft pick, per The Athletic.
Update: Luke Toporowski is heading to Minnesota as well. The condition with the draft pick is if Maroon plays in a playoff game this spring.
The Bruins address a need as their lack of a physical presence as of late has been concerning. Brazeau has done a decent job since he's joined the team but the B's ultimately felt like they needed to make a move with the playoffs coming up. Maroon is coming off back surgery and is still a little ways away from playing but make no mistake this was a move meant to make an impact come April. Cheap (literally $800K), low risk, high reward move to bolster the bottom six part of the lineup. Per Russo, any Maroon debut would be towards the end of the month. He has 4 goals, 12 assists for 16 points in 49 games this year for the Wild.
Pat Maroon and Jack Edwards hate each other's guts after Edwards called Maroon a fatty. So that is just a hilarious wrinkle. Can't wait to see their first interaction. I have hated Pat Maroon's guts since 2019 but now that The Big Rig coming to Boston I am his #1 fan. Pizzas for everyone!
While this move doesn't move the needle much for this team (although you can't deny Maroon's playoff success), the Bruins are basically handcuffed unless they move players out. I think it'll be too difficult to move on from Linus Ullmark mid-season, but I'm sure Don Sweeney is listening to calls. We'll see what else plays out prior to 3pm. I think they need some help on D and some more scoring but it's hard to do that with a lack of assets and virtually no cap space. Tough spot to be in. We'll see where this goes.
